Audra McDonald's talent is unparalleled in the range and variety of her work in her roles as a performer, singer and actor. She was the recipient of a record breaking 6 Tony Awards as well as two Grammy Awards and Emmy Awards. She was also named as a result of Time magazine among the 100 most influential people and was awarded the National Medal of Arts - the top honor for artistic achievement in America for artistic achievement - from President Barack Obama. A luminous soprano and an incomparable gift of telling the truth in a dramatic manner She is equally comfortable in Broadway and on the opera on stage as she is in role in television and film. Alongside her theatrical work she is also a prominent performer as a recording artist who performs regularly at most prestigious venues in the world. Born into a musical family McDonald lived living in Fresno California and received her classical vocal training at the New York's Juilliard School. In 1994, just a few years following her graduation from Juilliard School, she won the Tony Award for "Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical" for Carousel. In the four following years, she received two more Tony Awards as a featured actor for her performances in Terrence Mcnally's Broadway debuts Master Class (1996) and Ragtime (1998). The total number of Tony Awards is unprecedented at 3 before the age of 30. In 2004 she was nominated to win her 4th Tony Award for her performance in A Raisin in the Sun with Sean Diddy Combs. And in 2012, her 5th Tony as well as her first win for the category of Leading Actress was won for her performance as the main character of The Gershwins Porgy and Bess. In 2014 she made Broadway history, becoming one of the Tony Awards most decorated performer in her sixth award in the role of Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill the role that also served as the vehicle for her Olivier Award-nominated debut performance on London's West End. The first actor to be awarded in four different acting categories, McDonald broke the record for the total number of awards that an actor has won. Her credits in the theatre are The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (993) Henry IV (2004) and 110 in the Shade (707). Twelfth Night marked McDonald's Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut. Shuffle Along is the Making of the Musical Seduction in 1921 and the Drama That Followed. Frankie Johnny as Clair de Lune. and Ohio State Murders. McDonald made her television debut in the Peabody Award-winning CBS drama Having Our Say - The Delany Sisters's First 100 Years. Her next appearance was that of a character actor in NBC's Law & Order Special Victims Unit and she appeared with Kathy Bates and Victor Garber. McDonald won the first Emmy for her part on The HBO remake of the Pulitzer Prize winning play Wit written by Mike Nichols, starring Emma Thompson. In 2003, she was back on television, this time in Mister Sterling produced by Emmy Award-winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr., starring Josh Brolin. In early 2006 she joined The Bedford Diaries' cast on show on WB called The Bedford Diaries and over the following season, she played the role of a regular on the NBC television show Kidnapped. McDonald's character in HBO movie Lady Day At Emerson Bar and Grill earned the actress a fourth Emmy nomination in 2016. The Bite was a six episodes pandemic-themed drama created by Spectrum Originals in collaboration with CBS Studios. The year 2009 saw her debut, McDonald played U.S. Attorney Liz Lawrence in CBS's legal drama The Good Wife. In the year 2018, McDonald returned to her role as Liz Reddick as a regular on Paramount+'s The Good Fight. She received three Critics Choice Award nods for the role. The actress is currently guest on Julian Fellowes' historic comedy The Gilded Age.
